We're always looking for new enthusiastic people, interested in our hobby and becoming a part of the group.
To become a member of the South West Battle Group there is a small annual membership fee. After you have become a member, you can do as much or as little as you wish. If you purely wish to become a day tripper and just wear the uniforms, that is fine. If you wish to camp at the events we attend and set up a display, that is fine. If you wish to be a very active member and take part in everything, including battle re-enactments, that is fine. All that we ask is that if you do wish to take part in any sort of battle re-enactments, or pyrotechnic displays, you are fully covered insurance wise. This is currently wish the Sportsman's Association, however we may be changing insurers in the near future.
Costs
In order to get started, you will need a uniform of some description. Now the prices of a uniform vary drastically, depending on what you choose to buy. Reproduction uniforms are obviously cheaper than originals, and are easier to get a hold of. Due to the fact that our group re-enacts all periods of time not just WW2, this means that you can also wear more modern uniforms, and period civilian clothing. These are generally cheaper, and are much easier to get a hold of, some people may then move onto older uniforms, and taking part in battle re-enactments. If you have a look at the "Links" page, we are constantly adding websites which our members have used in the past, and have recommended to us. The only restriction that we give with regard to uniforms, is that representation of SS, or other political parties is NOT acceptable.
Insurance
Insurance is not a necessity to become a member of our group, although it is recommended. The only circumstances that you would need to have insurance, is if you wanted to take part in any battle re-enactments or displays using pyrotechincs. We would however recommend insurance to cover you for any injuries caused by displays, etc.
Our insurance is currently provided by the Sportsman's Association. This however has to be taken out by the INDIVIDUAL. It is not currently a group insurance, however we are looking into this possibility. Insurance from the Sportsman's Association is fairly cheap, and covers you for public liability.
